Known world over for housing the Taj Mahal, Agra also finds mention in Mahabharat, dating back to 1000 BC. Starting from Sultan Sikander Lodhi to Ibrahim Lodhi and Babar, then to Vikramaditya, Agra became the dominion of many rulers, flourishing finally under the hands of Mughal rulers Akbar, Jahangir and Shah Jahan. All the major places to visit in Agra we built and designed by these Mughal rulers.

Babur was the first ruler to undertake architectural initiative here by developing a Persian garden on the banks of river Yamuna which is now called Aaraam Bagh or the Garden of Relaxation. Akbar followed it up with the majestic Red Fort, and also constructed a city on the outskirts of Agra called Fatehpur Sikri.

Jahangir, a lover of gardens and greenery, had many luscious ones laid out all over the city and in the Red Fort. Finally, Shah Jahan, a keen architecture enthusiast had the Taj Mahal built in memory of his wife, Mumtaz Mahal, which today stands as the pride of India, and one of the Seven Wonders of the World.

Agra came into the hands of the British in 1835, soon after leading to the Agra Famine. In the revolt of 1857, this city had an important role to play. Growing out of all the adversities it faced, Agra has now grown into a thriving city, making progress in leaps and bounds.
