A general railway ticket is valid from the day of the commencement of the journey. The passenger is required to put his signature along with the date on ticket at the start of the journey. The validity is calculated at the sum of journey days and break journey days. For journey days, it is 1 day per 400 km, and for break journey days, it is 1 day per 200 km.

The validity of a general ticket is over once the journey is complete, but there is no way for the authorities to know how many times you have travelled on the same ticket in a single day. So for short journey, you can take multiple journeys (within a day's time) on the same ticket. Download the ixigo train app for easy train bookings, timely updates and information of Indian railways.
