Legend has it that Bade Miyan had really humble beginnings as a small stall around 75 years ago, when one Mohammad Yaseen thought of serving his delightful kebabs and biryanis to navy officers and office goers in Mumbai's Fort area, behind the Taj hotel. He was referred to as  'miyan' and since he had a very long beard, the eatery came to be known as Bade Miyan.

Soon, the inviting aromas of these delicately spiced and beauteously tasty dishes wafted into the streets and lanes of Mumbai, drawing one and all from near and far. The dark alleyway in Colaba, started being a place where you could spot wealthy business men and celebrities, along with those from humble backgrounds.

Now, along with its hole in the wall outlet in Colaba, Bade Miyan also has a restaurant at Horniman Circle. Honestly, eating at Bade Miyan is a unique experience in itself thanks to the expertly balanced flavours, intoxicating spices and taste you can fall in love with. The two specialities from Bade Miyan you can't leave Mumbai without are its Meat Biryani and the Seekh Kebab.

Very disappointed after my visit to bademiya stall at colaba. Had ordered a lot of food to take home and since in a hurry dint check the parcel. To my surprise a couple of items were missing. Also the waiter was rude and in a big hurry even though it was not crowded at that time. Food was o.k. but definitely over priced since portion sz is too less.. Didn't live up to its name..
