Though Bali is a microcosm of everything a vacation can offer, if you have some extra time, pack your bags and rush to these nearby places. Don’t worry, these places are not that far from Bali, but will offer you a totally different charm of their own.

  • Banyuwangi

Just an hour ferry ride away from Bali, this place is at the easternmost tip of Java and connected to Bali though its town Gilimanuk. Home to the biggest crater lake in Java, the Ijen Plateau, which is a picturesque site with azure water steaming with volcanic activity against a backdrop of grey volcanic rocks is a must-see spot that has beckoned tourists from all over the world. If mountains are giving you a high, beaches will give you a laid-back relaxed feeling. Go down to Sukamade Beach and you will fall in love with it instantly, if you are a nature-lover as the it is famous as a protected area for turtles including the Green Turtle. If going to the beach is making you eager to play with the cool blue water, G-Land or Plengkung, one of the best surfing spots in the world will surely bring out the daredevil in you. After sightseeings and fun-activities, make sure you see the popular Gandrung dance, meaning ‘hopelessly in love’. Now, doesn’t that sound interesting! But this love is for the goddess of rice and is way of thanking for the rice harvest. Disappointed? Na, makes it more interesting, right? These are just a few of the options of exploring this place. For the rest, its upto you to find out!

  • Gili Islands

Life is beautiful- this will be your first impression as you stargaze at the beach of Gili Island with the silvery moon, the crystal water and the silent night for company. With no spiring building nor sprawling fancy malls to dot these three island of Lombok, it is nature that takes the centrestage making these island a favourite destination for backpackers. It the charm of the road less travelled that brings the unusual tourists who love everything in the crude form to this spot. Dive for an adventure of the Indonesian sea in Gili Trawangan. If you want a laid-back family trip or a nice romantic one, Gili Air is a better option than Gili Trawangan. With home-stay facilities that are cheap on the pocket and high on the local experiences, Gili Islands is the best way to experience the native life of the Indonesian locals.

  • Komodo Island

Lizards are not something that a tourist looks forward to, except those who have an exceptional love for anything that comes under fauna. But if it is the largest lizard in the whole world, you cannot give it a slight glance and turn away with an indifferent look. You will make sure you include a sightseeing to the particular lizard’s habitat in your itinerary. Komodo Island, home to the Komodo National Park is as famous for the Komodo Dragons as it is for scuba-diving. In short, you can say its a hub for those tourists who want a bit of the place in everything they see or do. And the list gets longer as you can also opt for kayaking and camping in this island. However short the trip is, however congested your itinerary is, you have to squeeze in this place somewhere. Seriously, this cannot be missed!

Different flavours of Indonesia, all around Bali, all near to Bali. Did someone know that you are coming to Bali and organize everything so conveniently for you to explore? Don’t smile, it is not because you are coming. Bali was born this way.
