When you arrive at Gulmarg, it is understandable if you just want to sit at one place and gaze out in wonder at the view around you. But it might be a good idea if you make the most of your trip to Gulmarg and explore the surroundings. There are quite a few places around you can visit:

  • Nagin Valley

Having being opened to tourists and locals after 22 years in 2012, the valley offers uncharted terrain for you to explore. The journey to the valley, through the Gulmarg-Botapathri road, is an amazing experience, with the clouds covering the mountainous road and then bursting into rains at intervals. Developed as an ecotourism destination and at a distance of 10 km from Gulmarg, you can come here to escape the crowd of Gulmarg and want to experience the serenity of the Himalayas.

A beautiful, grass covered landscape, you could bring your camping gear here as it's ideal for camping. Surrounded by dense pine cover, it is at a distance of 10 km from Gulmarg. To get here you will have to cross the Ningle Nallah and the path takes you through a pine forest and a succession of beautiful glades. You could also hire a pony and ride down here.

That screensaver you have with the mountain in the backdrop and a beautiful stream running right below it? How you wished you were there when you first saw it and still do every time you look at it? Well, a trip to Ningle Nallah will fulfill that wish of yours. Located at a distance of 10 km from Gulmarg, it is a beautiful stream that receives its water from the melting ice of the Apharwat peak and the Alpather Lake during summers. It eventually merges into the Jhelum River near Sopore. Meadows of blooming flowers, pine trees, and the snow capped mountains make for a beautiful sight. You can easily reach the Ningle Nallah by road and it will be on your way to Lienmarg.
