  • Reservations

Mathura, being the birthplace of Lord Krishna, is extremely popular among tourist and pilgrims alike. Make sure to book your tickets way in advance along with hotel reservations lest you have to forgo your holiday. Carry a printout of your hotel booking confirmation and do contact the hotel once before you embark on your journey.

  • Climate

With a temperate climate throughout the year, you can carry light cottons during summer and sufficient woolens for the winter months. To save yourself from the sun, carry a strong sunblock and put on your favourite shades for an uninterrupted day of sightseeing.

  • Cash

Carry adequate cash to Mathura, incase you need immediate cash for emergencies. Even though there are numerous ATMs in the city, it may be difficult to browse around for one at the last minute. Also carry smaller denominations like 10’s, 20’s and 50’s to buy those knick-knacks, prasad at the temple and pay for travel within the city.

In Mathura, it being a religious place and very popular among tourists, there will be several people offering you special darshans and sightseeing tours. Be careful of such claims as they may be fraudulent and in such situations it’s best to trust the staff at your hotel to point you towards someone reliable. Also make sure to find out the darshan timings in advance, especially if you go during the festival of Janmashtami. Be careful of your belongings at these temples and especially during the festival of Holi. If you’re allergic to colours or don’t like being a part of the festival, it would be advisable to change your dates as almost everyone who comes here during Holi is expected to participate.
