A fascinating city, Chandigarh is a tidy package with different neighbourhoods awaiting your exploration. Plan well and regardless of your vacation duration, you can enjoy the delights the city opens your way. Some tips that will hold in you good stead as you map out your vacation:

  • Book Ahead

Book your travel tickets well in advance. You don’t want a last minute scramble with tickets, plane or train, that are either unavailable or highly priced. With hotel booking becoming so convenient today, it would be good idea to book the hotel rooms of your choice and budget well before you travel to Chandigarh. Get a written confirmation through email or fax and carry a copy of the email or faxed confirmation to the hotel as proof of your room confirmation.

  • Driving

Roads leading to and within Chandigarh, particularly, are well-maintained and good to drive on. Wide spaced with plenty of road signs and markers to ensure you have a smooth drive. As with any long journey, if you’re planning to drive up to Chandigarh, ensure that your car is fully-serviced and tyres properly inflated to protect from the occasional potholes. Also check for parking space for your vehicle at your hotel beforehand to avoid any last minute surprises.

Keep in mind when you are driving around in the city to follow the traffic rules very carefully. The traffic police is very active and vigilant out here and if you are driving without putting the seat belt on or are talking on the mobile whilst driving or have the headlights on without the dipper, then you are in for a fine and challan.

  • Cash

Chandigarh has plenty of ATM’s which you can use to withdraw cash. So it would be advisable to carry just some minimal cash to get you started and withdraw as you need them. Also, carry plenty of cash in smaller denominations like INR 10, 20, 50 and 100, as you will need it here for travelling, shopping and eating.

  • General Guidelines

Each city has its own set of rules and regulations, set down by the government. It would be advisable to adhere to these to avoid any untoward incidents during your trip. For foreign nationals, Visa is a must to carry with you at all times. Save the emergency contact numbers, especially the contact number of your hotel, in your mobile phonebook.

Now you are all set for that relaxed vacation you have been day dreaming of. Don’t forget to bring home lots of souvenirs and pictures from your awesome trip.
