Travelling to a new city always brings along a bag full of surprises, unexpected happenings and a myriad memories. Explore and enjoy your desired holiday destination to the fullest. And, if Pelling is on your list this time, you are in for one memorable holiday. Filled with alluring sightseeing spots, unexplored hideouts and charming little restaurants, this town will win your hearts and how.
If this is your first visit to Pelling, here are a list of things you may want to keep in mind for a wonderful holiday.

  • If you’re taking your own car to Pelling, make sure it’s fully serviced and has good tyres that don’t skid. Driving can be tricky on narrow, snaking roads and the last thing you want to do is be stranded on the street. Driving in this hilly region requires special skills to tackle the sharp turns and steep roads, so brushing up on your driving or hiring an experienced driver might be a good plan.

  • Clothing

Depending on when you travel to Pelling, make sure you carry ample warm clothes accordingly. For example, if you travel during December, be certain to pack that long, woolly overcoat and some sturdy boots. Also carry good walking shoes for comfortable treks and walks in and around Pelling.

  • Reservations

It is advisable to make all air, rail and hotel bookings well in advance to avoid any last minute glitches. It would also be a good idea to reconfirm your hotel reservation a couple of days before your trip so as to leave no scope for miscommunication.

  • Cash

It is recommended that you travel with sufficient amount of cash as there is only 1 ATM in the entire city.

  • Foreign Nationals

Foreign nationals visiting Sikkim need to obtain an Inner Line Permit (ILP) which is issued by all Indian Missions abroad, Tourism offices, New Delhi, Sikkim Tourism Office, Kolkatta and Sikkim Tourist Office, Siliguri on the basis of an Indian visa. The permit for a period of 30 days in issued on the spot without much delay. The documents required for the issuing of the permit are photocopies of passport and Indian visa and 3 copies of passport photos.
The permit for 30 days can be extended to another 30 days by the
State Government. The extension of the permit can be obtained from FRO at Gangtok and office of Superintendent of Police of the North, West and South Districts.
  • If you are interested in trekking in the interior regions of the state, the Tourism and Civil Aviation issues Protected Area Permit (PAP) at Gangtok which is available for certain specified areas for groups consisting of two or more foreigners subject to the condition that the trekking programme is arranged
  • through an authorised travel agency.

  • General Rules

Each city has its own government and own set of rules. As a responsible traveller, it would be a good idea to keep these rules in mind while you enjoy your holiday in Pelling. One of the few places which are clean and pristine, travellers are requested to consciously keep the general cleanliness of the place intact.

With these little tips in mind, set out to discover this vibrant hilly hamlet. A memorable holiday awaits.
