A new place may require you to be extra smart and decisive. And, isn't Ooty the kind of place where being smart is sure to fetch you extra joy, don't you agree? We recommend to you some of the tips and guidelines that you can follow in order to enjoy your trip to Ooty better. Have a look.

  • Weather and Nature

If you are visiting the town in the months of winters (November to January), then remember to carry your woolens as the temperature may even drop to freezing point.

  • Journey

Beware of the taxi or bus operators who try to induce you into opting for certain hotels or restaurants. They may be having some profit-motives behind their apparent kindness.

The Annual Flower Show and the The Tea and Tourism festival are the two major events here. Plan your trip according to the occurrence of these.

  • Stay/ Eat

If you are looking for slightly unconventional places for accommodation, you may try the various resorts, placed on the higher side of prices, while a homestay such as Wallwood Garden Homestay is slightly cheaper and more homely. The famous tea bar Tranquilitea here in Wallwood must definitely be tried.
However, in either of the cases, you should exercise your discretion in terms of location (whether you want to stay amidst the hills or in the city-centre), money or even the ambience.

  • Sightseeing

Remember to carry a camera/handy cam when you visit sites such as the museum, the Nilgiris and the lake

Ooty Lake has a problem of continually proliferating weeds, which have transformed the lake into the most polluted water body in Tamil Nadu. So, remember the water here is not potable.

    If you are visiting
Mukerti National Park, you must remember that Government does not allow casual tourism or private tour operators here. So, prior permission is required in order to venture and explore the wildlife resources in the park. However, the Forest Department does offer training in trekking activities in order to familiarise the public with the conservation efforts of the department. You will have to make prior applications in order to book for the trekking programmes. Contact them at: +91-423-24445971

For good quality cheap warm clothes, visit the
Tibetan Market or the Commercial Road. The traditional silver and shawls of the indigenous Toda tribe again should be on your priority list.

  • General

Lastly, do not forget to keep some emergency numbers handy. Here are some-
    Police Station: +91-423-2444065
    Government Hospital: +91-423-2442212
    Tourism Office: +91-423-2443837
