Alwar is a magic carpet ride of ancient, medieval and modern. Forts, palaces, lakes and national park-there is quite a lot to see and experience in Alwar. However, regardless of the time you are in Alwar, there are some places to experience and activities to do that are quintessential Alwar. One of them is a visit to the Bala Quila. Perched on top of one of the hillocks of Aravalli range, Bala Quila is one massive fort with areas within it named and designated as palaces. Representing the spirit and soul of Alwar in the times of Mughals and Rajputs, when annexing it meant control over entire Alwar, today it lies isolated and empty.

Holding a century deep breath of silence, Bala Quila gives you the chance to explore some truly incredible medieval architecture.  It is possible to reach its very pinnacle and do make the effort, exhausting though it may seem, to climb up to it. The view of Alwar from that point is simply splendid and incomparable. Here, at the top, you are likely to come across the wireless police has set up to detect presence.

or Kalakand (milk cake) is what Alwar is popular for and a visit to Alwar without having stuffed yourself with it and bought boxes for friends and family back home is like not having visited Alwar at all. Made of solidified, sweetened milk and cottage cheese, mixed with sugar and topped with dry fruits it is mouthful of culinary diviness. If anjeer (figs) have been mixed in the original recipe then the milk cake turns brown and it is called as brown mawa.

Experience the magic conjured by the abandoned forts and places of Alwar that evoke the kings, friends, families and lovers whose lives unfolded in them over centuries and find yourself captivated by the story of a culture that awakens strange and wonderful chords within you.
