Trekking in Palampur is one of the popular activities in the town given the serenity of this untouched hill station. The ‘Tea Capital of India’ was established by Dr. Jameson, who introduced tea plantation in the hill station, and is now a famous centre for tea plantation in the country. The picturesque town of Palampur is surrounded by pine and deodar thick forests, verdant tea gardens, and numerous brooks and streams dance through the scenic landscape.

Located in Kangra Valley in Himachal Pradesh, Palampur offers a number of trek routes within and around it. A number of trek routes lead out of the hill station, especially over the Dhauladhar Mountains towards the town of Chamba. Palampur serves as the starting point for treks to Dharamshala, Kangra, etc. so much so that the famous Baijnath-Manali trek passes through the town. A few other interesting treks from the town include Palampur to Holi over the Shingar pass and Palampur to Dharamsala via Indrahar Pass.

The best time for trekking in Palampur is in the months from May to August and post-monsoon between mid-September to mid-October. The duration of the treks is usually 5 to 8 days. These trekking routes are isolated and reveal some of nature’s best preserved panorama in Palampur
