You'll have to dig a little deep for this one! Though mainstream Kathmandu stands at the cusp of commercialisation now, it has still not lost its cultural life completely. Take a walk down the back lanes of busy and popular places like Thamel and see the cultural vigour of Nepal come to life in the tiny temples. High end hotels organise the famous Stick Dance on evenings for their guests, and it is a beauteous sight, seeing locals hop to and fro between moving sticks to rhythm, decked in colourful attires.

  • Patan

Probably the best place to head to for enjoying the real culture of Nepal is
Patan, located just across river Bagmati from Kathmandu. Once here, checking out the Patan Palace is an absolute must as the grandeur of erstwhile rulers is a sight to behold. The museum located here will help you develop an insight into the culture and history of Nepal, and is a major tourist attraction. Also visit the various temples located North and South of Patan's Durbar Square like the Mahaboudha Temple, Rudravarna Mahavihar and Kumbheshwar Temple. During festive season the Durbar Square comes to life, cloaked in infinite colours and witnessing immense activity on the culture front, so the culture enthusiasts might want to visit Nepal during these times.

Watch beautiful dances and marvel at their tricks, join in the fun and click loads of pictures and take back beautiful memories of your cultural journey in Nepal.
