Adventure buffs are in for a wonderful surprise in Pelling. If your idea of a good holiday is backpacking across the destination, then this hilly hamlet will keep you very busy. With splendid mountains surrounding the town, adventure is just a call away. Traversing through rocky, craggy paths, gurgling streams and strenuous uphill climbs is a thrill in itself.
So tighten those shoelaces, pack your backpacks and set out to discover Pelling, just the way you like it.

Pelling is a starting point for the Monastery trek which covers Kechapalari to Tashiding. The three day trek starts from Pelling leading to Kechapalari lake which is about 6 hours. From the lake, you head to Yuksum which is another 4 hours. The trek ends at Tashiding which takes about 6 hours. The trek is not as strenuous in terms of difficulty, but with so many stoppage points, it is quite tiring.
You can take a map from the Tourist Information Center, though the map is hand made and not very well defined, a vague idea is better than none. As the areas are quite populated, any time you feel a bit lost, you can always ask locals for precise directions.

The picturesque trek is dotted with small villages along the countryside, umpteen lakes and surprising views of the valley. Enjoy this beautiful trekking spree and don’t forget to carry the essential trekking gear as you set out. If lodging in a hotel is on your mind, you can book from the Tourism Center itself. But, if adventure buffs want an experience of camping out, you can either rent the gear from the main market in Pelling or carry your own.

Trekking involves its own risks and situations, it is better to be prepared than to be stuck. Make sure you carry enough water and snacks until your next stopping point incase there aren’t enough eating joints on the way. A first aid kit, torch, rechargeable batteries, umbrella, mosquito repellents are a must for a long trekking spree.

So leave the world behind as you set out on this beautiful journey. A tryst with nature away from the furor of cities is certainly an experience to treasure.
