To cover Dwarka, Somnath and Akshardham in a hassle free holiday, it would be best to start from the capital city of Gandhinagar in Gujarat. Since your journey begins from Lucknow, there are various means to reach Gujarat.

You can either take a train or a direct flight to Ahemdabad from Lucknow. If you choose to travel by air, it will take you close to 3 hours to reach Ahemdabad. On the other hand it may take you close to a day to reach by train depending on the train you choose.

Once at Ahemdabad, you can stay for atleast a day to avoid a hurried trip. From Ahemdabad you can take a cab till Akshardham Temple in Gandhinagar. Considered to be the largest temple in Gujarat, the temple is truly a sight to behold.

Next you can head to Dwarka which is close to 450 km away from Ahemdabad and will take you about 7 hours. There are a number of trains and buses plying between the two cities. Once at Dwarka, it will take you close to a day to see the holy city before proceeding to Somnath.

Somnath is another 250 km from Dwarka and will take you about 4 hours to reach. You will need another day to see the beautiful and much talked about Somnath temple here. If you would like to spend a day here, you can check out the Somnath travel guide page for more information.

From Somnath, it would be best to come back to Ahemdabad, since the journey back to Lucknow is a wee bit easier. If on the other hand, you would prefer to head back from Somnath, you can take the train back. It will take you close to 30 hours to reach Lucknow.

It is certainly an easier option to head back to Ahemdabad which will take you about 7 hours and hence board the bus or flight from there.
