What if your holiday was to be more than sight seeing and hearing a flurry of facts which you will forget the next second? Lets take you on an experiential ride through the Golden City and see what all will turn your trip to Jaisalmer from a holiday to the experience of a lifetime. Get set to be mesmerised!

  • Boating in the Gadisar Lake

Wouldn’t a boat ride in the middle of a desert feel simply mesmerising? No, its not a mirage but the Gadisar Lake in Jaisalmer is surely going to appear like a miracle. Built by the founder of the city Jaisalmer, Raja Rawal Jaisal, this reservoir is decorated by a necklace of temples. Take a soothing boat ride at sunset and enjoy the rippled views of the cenotaphs on the surface of the lake. You can also buy a pack of bread and feed the catfish of the lake. The fish is going to flock to you like bees to honey and seeing them squander for the feed is a sight which is exciting and scary at the same time; it almost feels like the fish will jump out of the water into your lap to get a good bite or two!
  • Sunset Views of the Jaisalmer Fort

It is said that the setting sun adorns the Jaisalmer Fort in such hues that it looks like you have set gold on fire. As beautiful as this sight is, this is also one experience in Jaisalmer which fails words. Take a walk down any lane that takes you away from the fort, find a nice rock to rest yourself on and see the sinking sun play its colourful games with the walls of this majestic fort. Trust me when I say this, no visit to Jaisalmer is complete without an experience of the fort in this manner. Take a flask of hot tea with yourself to make the experience even better!
  • Camel Ride in the Street

A ride to the heart of the Thar Desert is never complete without hopping onto a camel back and taking a tour of the place! It is not difficult to spot a camel in Jaisalmer, they are pulling carts, being walked by their masters or simply soaking up some shade (they already have too much of the sun) by the roadside. Control your urges to climb onto these till you encounter a camel decked in colourful fineries from head to toe - those are the ones meant for the travelling folk! You can usually get a short camel ride near Gadisar Lake or near the gates of the Jaisalmer Fort.

Though a paid camel ride is one experience a trip to Jaisalmer is incomplete without, a camel cart ride is something which feels totally out of the world. You might be able to get a feel of this one only if you have a gift of the gab, as it requires being friendly and chatty with the old man who is taking his sacks down the city on a camel cart. Shed the inhibition, go forward and ask “Bhai-ji” for a ride, and trust me, you won’t regret it one bit!
  • Watching a Puppet Show

Think Rajasthan and one of the first images in your head would be that entertaining puppet shows, right? Well there is no place in the world that does it better than the Golden City! Walk into the Desert Cultural Centre and Museum once the sun sets and you are in for a breathtaking time. A young boys resonant song, the cheery rhythm of local musical instruments and puppet dolls shaking a leg like life was breathed into them - this is perhaps the best way to take home some colourful memories of kaleidoscopic Jaisalmer.

Strap up for an all new feel of the Golden City! Happy holidaying!
