  • Onam

    It is the biggest festival of the state of Kerala which falls during the Malayali month of Chingam (August to September) and marks the homecoming of legendary King Mahabali. This ten day celebration is one of the most lively events of the year which includes religious ceremonies, feasting, dancing, music performances and singing. The snake-boat races that take place along the palm-fringed lagoons are among the most exciting of the festival's events.

  • Nehru Trophy Boat Race

    Held on the second saturday of the month of August, it is one of the extravagant event taking place in Munnar. The race takes place on the Punnamada lake, with spectator pavilions set up along the banks. The ceremony opens with colorful decorated floats, boats and traditional performances. Separate races are held for women and the festivities last throughout the day and late into the evening. The race is truly exciting to watch.

  • Thrissur Pooram Festival

    Celebrated in the month of May, it is one of the most momentous festivals in Munnar. It is a massive show with about thirty decorated elephants walk through the streets carrying object symbolic of revered royalty. The elephants stand with dignity and discipline, while the ancient Panchavadyam is played on conch, cymbals, trumpet and drums.

  • Attukal Pongala

    An all women affair, this festival is celebrated in the month of February. It is one and the only temple festival in the world where women assemble together to make offerings by cooking a pudding for the goddess in the Attukal temple. The priest of the temple comes and sprinkles holy water after which it is taken home.
