In this holy land of shrines and temples you will have a lot of religious spots to pay reverence to. Here are a few that you can't afford to miss:

  • Vaishno Devi Temple

    Visit the magical and scenic Mata Vaishno Devi cave-shrine, after a 14 kms steep, hilly trek from Katra, while enthusiastically chanting "Jai Mata Di" with other pilgrims. Pay your respects to the Maa Vaishno Devi, a reincarnation of Goddess Shakti, and soak yourself in all its legend and culture. There are three Pindis at the temple representing three Goddesses- namely Maha Saraswati, Maha Lakshmi and Maha Kali. Picturesque surroundings and the verdant, green surroundings keep company to tourists and pilgrims on their journey to the temple. The best time to visit this shrine is during the months of March to October even the temple is open for devotees all throughout the year.

  • Shiv Khori

    Explore the religious significance of this popular pilgrimage site located around Katra. Pay your respects to the 4 feet naturally forming beautiful Shiva Linga which symbolizes Lord Shiva. It is a beautiful sight in itself as you will love to watch the milky limestone water flowing from stalactites and stalagmites. If you happen to visit the shrine during Shivratri, make sure you are a part of the grand fair that is organized during the same time.

  • Dera Baba Banda

    Pay a visit to this famous Hindu-Sikh pilgrimage site which is approx. 30 kms from Katra. The place was built by Baba Banda Bairagi and it is said that this is the place where he breathed his last.

  • Bhairavnath Temple

    The legend goes that Mata Vaishno Devi, beheaded Bhairo Nath, a demon who fought her to attain salvation, and the head fell in a place near the great Vaishno Devi Temple and is now known as Bhairavnath Temple. She realized his intentions and gave him a place equal to God, forgiving all the sins. It is believed that your pilgrimage to Vaishno Devi temple is not complete if you do not visit this temple. Make sure you go to this temple and seek blessings in this temple.

  • Ardh Kuwari Cave

    It is believed that it is here that Mata Vaishno Devi hid from the demon Bhairo Nath. It took him nine months to find her after which the Goddess brought the demon to his end and salvation. The 15 feet long cave is also called Garbh Joon and can be visited on your way to the temple and makes for half of the journey. It is said that when you are in this cave you will experience a divine feeling that you won't find anywhere. Come here and live the much heard tale.
