Market side at Ajmer is a pleasing riot of colours, just like the rest of Rajasthan. An old world charm makes for the buzz in the bazaars of this city. Pack home some of the souvenirs from here, like:

  • Ittar

It’s what you may call as the essentially Indianised perfumes. Made of fresh flowers that are crushed and processed, these come in colourful tiny glass containers that are a beauty in themselves. And unlike perfumes, all that you need is a dab or a maximum of 2 drops to surround you in an enchanting freshness all day long. Grab as many of these as you can; a 10 mg bottle usually costs around INR 250 and upwards.

  • Silver Jewellery

Exquisite silver jewellery is another attraction of the city. Most of the marketplaces have a distinct glimmer to them, for lines of jewellery shops dot the lanes. Engrossing designs, most often in floral motifs, are engraved on most of the pieces. A visit to Ajmer can’t be complete without packing in a piece or two, so don’t forget to have your fill of the antique-looking jewellery.

  • Rajasthani Jutis

If you’ve been wanting that perfect pair of Rajasthani jutis (shoes), Ajmer has the best for you. A walk around at any of the shopping lanes in the city will have you face to face with these splendid, traditionally designed marvels. Look for the ones that are hand embroidered; you’ll be grabbing many eyeballs back home. Typically, a pair of jutis starts from INR 500.

  • Bandhini Sarees

The world famous, colourful yards of tie and dye splash the markets of Ajmer. Bandhini or bandhej is an art that’s hailed to have evolved for over a 100 years and renders an astonishing charm to the sarees. These sarees come in a spectrum of colours, usually as striking as red, green and yellow, and are a must have for every woman’s wardrobe. You can get a bandhini saree at Ajmer for as low as INR 300.

Silver souvenirs, bangles and woodcraft make for other items that are worth buying at Ajmer. The typical artistic side of Rajasthan’s art and culture is generously doused over every item that can be counted as a souvenir in the city. Bring home these reminders of a trip that will hardly need any reminders.
