Let the thespian in you rejoice at the numerous plays that are on every now and then at the various theatres in Delhi. Depicting an old world charm, these theatres date back 50 to 60 years, and host plays by amateur and professional theatre groups alike. Plays are usually held in the evenings, around 6pm and can last up to two hours. The Mandi House circle is particularly famous for housing several such theatres and auditoriums in the same vicinity, making theatre-hopping an actual possibility. The following are the most popular theatres in Delhi that serve as venues for plays regularly:

  • National School of Drama: Completely financed by the Ministry of Culture (of the Indian Government), this building also houses India’s most-famed theatre training institutes, to which it owes its name.   • Shri Ram Centre: Designed by Shiv Nath Prasad, with guidance from the famous theatre-figure, Ebrahim Alkazi, the current building was inaugurated in 1960. The entire building and its operations were built under the supervision of the Lala Shri Ram industrialist family and continues run through funding from them.
