When it comes to celebrations and festivities, Bikaner is definitely one of the major forerunners in this area. This historical city becomes even more resplendent during the festive season with tons of colours, music, folk-dances, local bazaars, and of course a mouth watering array of local delicacies and sweetmeats. Some of the famous festivals here are:

  • Gangaur Festival

If you land up in Rajasthan and find all the women dressed in magentas and fuchsias, know that you have arrived at the time of the Gangaur Festival. While Gana  is another name for Lord Shiva, Gaur stands for Gauri, his wife Goddess Parvati. This 18 day festival is celebrated in Rajasthan in the month of March by the womenfolk: the married ones seek marital bliss and those who are unmarried pray for good husbands. While the first few days see worship, song, dance and lamp lighting, the last day is marked by a procession. Idols of Lord Shiva and Parvati decorated during these days are immersed into a water body after this.

When: 18 days that usually fall in March.
    Where: In and around
    Bikaner
Who is invited: Women from everywhere

  • Camel Festival

A toast to the ship of the desert, the Camel Festival sees Bikaner come to life all over again! Processions of camels decked in fineries, camel races and unique camel dances spell this event, which is a delight to see. Add to it the fun of vibrant shopping stalls, lively folk music and a plethora  of performances, and you have the perfect recipe for a fun filled vacation. The dates of this festival differ every year so its a good idea to get in touch with your hotel staff for info on the same!

Be a part of these festivities and watch beautiful dances and marvel at their tricks. Join in the fun and click loads of pictures and take back beautiful memories of your cultural journey in Rajasthan.
