Answer: So you've visited all the popular hotspots within Pahalgam and are now twiddling your thumbs about where else to go. If you've still got time, the valley has a host of delights in store for you. Check out these places around Pahalgam and be prepared to be charmed!

  • Tulian Lake
A serene, icy lake surrounded by lofty, snow-capped mountains, which is sure to transport you into another world altogether. This lake is situated at an altitude of around 4000 mts and will test you for stamina and strength if you were to take a trek to Tulian. If you don't feel up to it, you can even hire a pony from the Pahalgam main market to cover this picturesque distance of nearly 16 km. Make sure to keep a day in your itinerary for this one, to fully explore its beauty and charm.

  • Sonamarg
Literally a "meadow of gold", just 42 km from Pahalgam, you will gasp in wonderment at the golden light that glints from the snow-capped peaks when lazy sun rays fall on them. A popular trekking destination, it is also known as the gateway to Ladakh, being very close to the Zoji-La Pass. The town is home to several beautiful lakes like Gangabal, Vishansar, Gadsar, Satsar and Kishansar, which are ideal to explore and maybe even picnic around. You can hire a cab from the Pahalgam main market area, or request your hotel's staff to arrange for one for you.

  • Gulmarg
This meadow of flowers is another jewel in the crown of the Kashmir Valley, just 146 km from Pahalgam, not to be missed if your itinerary allows it. Home to the longest cable car in Asia, Gulmarg also has some of the highest slopes for skiing. Get that adrenaline pumping or soak yourself in absolutely untouched natural beauty while you explore the place at a leisurely pace. This one would need you to hire a cab, which would take you nearly 4 hrs to reach Gulmarg via NH 1A.

  • Srinagar
The summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir and just 90 km from Pahalgam, the name of the city literally translates as "the city of wealth and abundance". Undoubtedly, the city has a wealth of natural beauty to explore, with the famous Dal Lake at the top of the tourist hot-spot list. Take a stroll around the majestic Mughal Gardens or laze around in the subtle sunlight on one of the special boats, Shikaras, on the Dal Lake - experiences which will last you a lifetime. The cultural and political hub of the state, Srinagar is a great place to buy those lovely handicrafts and experience local lifestyle.

If you're coming to Pahalgam, you will most probably first make a stop at Srinagar, especially if you are arriving by flight. After which you will have to take a Srinagar to Pahalgam taxi. Make sure to keep at least a day or two, either at the beginning of your Pahalgam holiday or at the end for this wonderful city.

With so much to see even around Pahalgam, you're sure going to want to extend your holiday. Make sure you carry extra space in your bags for those lovely handicrafts and keep your camera charged at all times for awe-inspiring pictures!
