Famously known as the Jewel of Kathiawar, Jamnagar boasts of a rich cultural heritage. It’s close connection with the royals and a unique culture is quite evident in the museums and art galleries. Take a dive into the mesmerising past of the city by visiting:

  • Lakhota Fort Museum And Kotha Bastion

Standing tall in the rippling, swirling waters of Lake Ranmal, it’s one of the most visited places in the whole of Jamnagar. Kotha Bastion houses a fascinating well, water from which can be drawn by blowing into a small hole in the floor! Walk up to the terrace of Lakhota Fort that has artifacts like swords, flasks, pottery, muskets, copper plates, coins, photographs and more, all dating back to 9th and 18th century. Get aboard a jetty from the northern banks of the lake to reach the museum.

Timings: 10.30 am to 2 pm, 2.30 pm to 5.30 pm. It’s closed on Wednesdays and and public holidays.

Address: Ranmal Lake

  • Radhika Art Gallery

This art gallery at Hawai Chowk has a brilliant collection of handcrafts in marble, bone and wood. Boasting of one of the most comprehensive collections in the whole city, it’s a tourists’ favourite. Gemstone paintings are the highlight of this place, watch out for those.

More than art galleries and museums, it’s the streets of Jamnagar that come as a welcome surprise. An old fort here, a towering structure there - this is precisely the way Jamnagar is. Needless to say, it’ll have you ensnared in its charm.
