Much more than just as aesthetic subject, art is a way of life at Bangkok. A city that’s like a crescent moon on the horizon of the art world, Bangkok has so much to offer that almost every lane and pathway here has an art gallery or two. If you find yourself lost and confused as to which ones to check out, here’s some help:

  • National Art Gallery

If fine arts is your cup of tea, then you just can’t skip a visit to this one. The very walls of this massive building are an artwork, dating back to the
Ratanakosin era. Apart from the artworks that are on permanent display, the various exhibitions organised here from time to time are worth a dekko. Works of amateur artists share space with the expert creations. The collection is spread across two floors, with the garden and courtyard displaying some of the finest pieces of sculpture.

  • Akko Art Gallery

If some of the masterpieces of contemporary art is what you are looking for, Akko Art Gallery is a perfect pitstop. Here, you have the chance to buy original works in watercolors, oils, woodcuts and drawings, at prices that usually hovers between 5000 Baht to 500,000 Baht. Apart from Thai, it also has some fabulous works by artists from Vietnam, Japan and other Asian countries. Check out the original works of watercolor geniuses like Somboon Phuangdorkmai and Kyoko Abe.

Timings: 10 am to 7 pm. You have to take appointment to visit on Sundays and after hours.

Are you looking for some fine paintings, photographs, sculptures, artworks, posters and more? If yes, then La Lanta Fine Art is just the place for you.   • Kathmandu Art Gallery

More on the lines of a pre-war shop, this one invites you for a fascinating journey. Taking you by their old world charm, the green painted walls are adorned by photo artist Manit Sriwanichpoom’s works on the ground floor. Much more than breathtaking, most of the works here are in black and white. The upper floor hosts interesting art exhibitions from time to time, inviting even the onlookers who aren’t that ardently into arts. Such is the lure of this place!
