Which are the popular attractions in and around Matheran?

If yes, then you would be amazed at how the beautiful hill-station that take you on an amazing ride to the several beautiful lookout points and places of interest. Being a unique hill station, it offers breath-taking view of the Western Ghats. Want to know more, then read on.

  • Lookout Points

    There are a plethora of Lookout points in Matheran that offer picturesque views of the the Western Ghats and lush plains dotted with villages far below. In total there are 28 such points, more popular ones being Panorama point, Monkey point, Rambagh point, Alexander point, Hart point and the One Tree Hill point.

    Panorama point has the the most spectacular views and it's a popular place to watch the sun rise. About 6 km from the Post Office, is most suitable for picnic and is very famous among the all visitors. the Monkey point is so named because there were kaikki monkeys abounding on that side formerly. This point faces Hart Cliff and has a clear and distinct echo effect. Rambagh point is about 2 kilometres from the Post Office and from this point you can view Garbut Point, Karjat Town and Khandala Point. From the Alexander point you can see Garbut Point, Borgaon Village, Towers of Bhivpuri Power House, Karjat Palasdari Lake, Rambaug Point and Chowk Point. The Hart point should be visited after sunset to get the spectacular views of Mumbai at night. One tree point has a single Jambhul tree perched at the top. From here you can see Panvel City, Chowk Village and  Mumbai-Pune Highway.

    ittle Chowk Pt, Big Chowk Pt, Belvedere Pt, Lords Pt, Celia Pt (Actually a waterfall mouth), Echo point, Porcupine Pt (Sunset Pt), Khandala Pt, Madhavji Garden & Point, Louisa Point and Mayra Point.

  • Charlotte Lake

    Located about 2 km from the Post Office, Lake Charlotte offers some stunning views of the serene lake and the reddish brown mountain ranges. The lake is the main source of drinking water for the city, thus, activities like boating, swimming and fishing is strictly prohibited in the lake. Enjoy the panoramic sceneries and lush greenery here, especially during monsoons when the lake is brimming with fresh water. The birds flying over the lake add to the charm and natural beauty of the lake. On its left, there is a an ancient temple of Pisharath and on its right there is the Echo point and Louisa point.

  • Pisharath Temple

    This ancient temple is situated on the left side of the serene Charlotte Lake and is surrounded by lush greeneries. Pisharath temple is a major Hindu religious destination and is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The oldest temple in Matheran, its Shiva Lingam appears in an extraordinary titled ‘L’ shape and is covered with sindoor. Situated at an altitude of about 2516 feet above sea level, it has extremely beautiful and secluded surroundings.

  • Mount Berry

    The highest spot in Matheran, this place offers some splendid views. Mount Berry is located around 5 kilometres from the post office. From the top you can get a splendid view of train coming up the hill, right from Neral Water Pipe and a perfect aerial view of the Neral Town.
