Who says you have to be stinky rich to enjoy life? If you are suffering from the shallow pocket syndrome, don’t let it bother you too much. You can still have a great time in this city, provided you budget your finances accordingly. A good place to cut your travelling costs will be accommodations. And trust us, there are plenty of budget options to choose from which have decent facilities and are feather light on your pockets. Ready? Here you go!

  • Hill View Guest House

At just INR 300 for a simple fan room with a view, this hotel is conveniently close to the railway station and just 6 kilometres away from the airport. But get this, it is sitting on the same hill and almost a stone’s throw away from the Mehrangarh Fort. Just step out and walk uphill for 5 minutes and voila, you are there! This small family run guest house comes highly recommended from tourists and ex-guests, who claim this honest and sweet family will make you feel welcome and forge a bond of lifelong friendship with you. With free pickups, a travel desk, Internet facilities, spa and massage parlour, foreign money exchange, and more. Aren't you sold already?

  • Singhvi’s Haveli

This 500 year old family mansion has been converted into a heritage hotel with the current generation running it. Quite affordable with a quiet atmosphere, Singhvi’s Haveli will prove to be a very comfortable experience. Along with free pickups, they offer desert and safari excursions. Try to book the deluxe room on the terrace which has awesome views of the fort and the city. It also has a little restaurant with a charming floor pillow seating which is a great place to simply chill out.
Room rates start from INR 1000 to INR 2100. Complimentary

  • Durag Niwas Guest House

Another Rajput family run restaurant, this is another lighter on the pocket choices with tariff for rooms starting for a pittance of INR 300, which can go up to INR 1000. Though you would not get the ‘silver service here’ you would want to return again and again for the complete package of home-cooked meals, the gloriously decorated rooms (especially the Maharaja, Maharani and the Rajput suites), the colourful roof top tent and the social gatherings during dinner. And you will definitely fall in love with ‘Chilly’, their friendly pet dog. Durag Niwas Guest House is associated with the Sambhali trust, an organisation which works for the upliftment of dalit women and children. You can volunteer for them or browse and purchase some souvenir from the Sambhali boutique, thereby helping these underprivileged people in making a better life for themselves. For more details, ask Govind, the owner of this guest house.

Tip: Don’t get this one confused with its next door neighbour, the
Durag Villas. They share no connection with this guest house.

These hotels are an ideal choice for people who just need a place to rest their heads in the night and are not looking forward to an over the top luxury affair. Still, with these choices, you are most likely to extend your stay (or at least want to), just to spend more time with these friendly people and soak in their incredible kindness and hospitality, a fact you’ll understand once you stay in one of these places.
