Food is a major part of everyday life and it’s really a lot of fun to try the local food of the places we visit. Isn’t it comforting to indulge your taste buds in hot and yummy food after experiencing the magic of cool and refreshing mountain breeze and breath-taking views of Himalayas? Well, the answer is a crisp ‘Yes’. The food available here is largely influenced by the Pahari Cuisine, which is highly nutritious, simple to prepare and at the same time appealing to the palate.

Since Joshimath is a pilgrimage base, people over here are generally vegetarian and its hardly likely that you will find non-vegetarian food in any eating joint. But, what you will find here is, lots of variety in vegetarian food, which is not very spicy but very delicious and finger licking good. There are various road-side stalls serving piping hot Chai or tea along with something to munch on like biscuits etc. They also serve the hot and yummy Maggi (instant noodles), and trust us when we say that a bowl of hot Maggi amidst the mighty Himalayas and cool mountain breeze tastes heavenly.

A number of Dhabas in Joshimath serve tasty north Indian food that mainly consists of dal, sabzi (vegetable), chawal (rice) and chapati. A number of restaurants situated within the hotels like Hotel Dronagiri and Char Dham Camp serve South Indian, Chinese and Continental cuisine as well. Try places like Saharanpur Misthan Bhandar, Mishra Sweet Shop, Narayan Lok Restaurant & Sweet Shop and Ashutosh Sweet Restaurant for delicious sweets and dishes.
