Dance Festival

Held during the first week of February, 1st Feb to 7th Feb, dance festival in itself is worth travelling to Khajuraho. The performance, given by maestros and young talents of Indian classical dance, is a lyrical tribute to the Gods and Goddesses enshrined in the temples as well as a celebration of the richness of Indian classical dance forms.

As you experience the performances set against the backdrop of the Chitragupta Temple dedicated to Surya (the Sun God) and the Vishwanatha Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, illuminated by the golden glow of the lamps, you will find yourself captivated in this moment of surrealism where the dancing images immortalised in the temple stone seem to come to life and dance in harmony with the classical dancers.

You can easily purchase tickets for this festival on the spot or book in advance. The tickets range from INR 20 on daily basis to INR 600 for seasonal ticket. The seasonal ticket is for those who plan to attend the festival all throughout the week whereas the daily ones are for those who plan to watch 1 or 2 day performances depending on their area of interest. The ticket charges are also dependant on the row you choose to sit. A separate charge of INR 100 is charged for camera on per day basis.


Cultural Dance Events

Besides the annual dance festival, there are myriad dance performance taking place regularly. Displaying beautiful and graceful dance forms, dancers from various cities take part in these events. Shilpgram, a cultural hub in the centre of the city, is the performing platform for these folk and cultural dances. Galore with thriving performances, the open air theatre makes for a perfect stage.
