A couple of major festivals in Almora which are majorly centred around deities and the harvest:

The festival that is organized since the very time that the Chand kings used to rule this place, the festival is dedicated to the Devi Nanda, the Goddess of Prosperity of the Chanda Dynasty. It is believed that the Devi was the family Goddess of this dynasty. The main site for the festival is the temple of 'Nanda' in Almora that dates back to the 17th century. The Nanda Devi Festival is celebrated for five days with different rituals that are carried out during this time. It is estimated that approximately 25 thousand people attend the festivities all around the Nanda Devi temple complex.
