This little hamlet in Sikkim will mesmerise you with its green and verdant surroundings, white snowy peaks and lofty, black cliffs. Lachen is not all about scenic landscape, it has its share of cultural festivals and events which are celebrated with much excitement and fervor.

  • Chaam

    Celebrated on 28th and 29th of November, Chaam is a religious dance performance by the Lamas. You will be surprised to see that the entire Lachen comes alive during this festival.

  • Lossong

    Lossong's celebration doubles up as Harvest Festival and New Year and no wonder, it is celebrated with much pomp and grandeur in Lachen. The two day festival starts from a Pooja that is performed at the primary water source, while the second day sees a grand function by the Dzumsa members. The day progresses with several games for children and concludes celebration at the end.

  • Thangu

    You will be thrilled to be a part of exhilarating Yak race that is held every year in Lachen. It is an event where the whole Lachen comes together to witness something that is both unique and interesting.

  • Saga Dawa

    You might have heard of the Buddhist Spirituality or you may be a follower yourself. If that is a case, you will love to take part in Saga Dawa, a festival that marks three important events in Lord Buddha's life. Celebrated at Lachen monastery in mid-June, it symbolises the day when Gautam Buddha was born, the day of enlightenment and the day he left this world.

  • Phang Lhabsol

    A festival unique to Sikkim, Phang Lhabsol is celebrated to mark the togetherness of the Bhutias and Lepchas. You will be surprised to know that as a part of the festival, Mt. Kanchendzonga's snowy peaks are worshipped for their unifying power. Phang Lhabsol is celebrated on the 15th day of the 7th month of Bhutia calendar (somewhere between August-September).
