If you love to take long walks in gardens of green, Udaipur is going to spoil you for choice. Head to one of the following places for some brisk walking or comfortable relaxation and be assured of a great time for the eyes, body, mind and soul.

  • Gulab Bagh
    Built during 1850s by Maharana Sajjan Singh, Gulab Bagh in Udaipur is touted as the largest garden of Rajasthan and is spread over an area of about a hundred acres. Famous for its delicately organised rose beds, this garden is a delight for both adults and children. Come here to soak in the green beauty in the heart of the desert state Rajasthan or to soak in the energy of the walking tracks here, you are bound to go back mesmerised. Leave your kids at the amusement park or zoo here, while you check out the more quiet quarters of this garden like the Victoria Hall Museum and Library. One of the best places in Udaipur to spend early mornings and late evenings.

  • Saheliyon Ki Bari
    Constructed by Maharana Sangram Singh in the 18th century to please his little princess, Saheliyon ki Bari is a stunning symbol of the grandeur of the emperors of Rajasthan. In her childhood, the princess demanded rain in the middle of the scorching heat and the king sanctioned the construction of Saheliyon ki Bari. Now a place of recreation replete with fountains, flowers, gardens, a museum and a lotus pond, this place was earlier a retreat of the kings and queens away from the political worries of the court. If you want a reposeful time in the company of melodious pitter patter of rainfall, you know where to go.

  • Nehru Island Garden
    Take a romantic boat ride in the Fateh Sagar Lake and reach the oval shaped Nehru Island Garden. A pleasing sight from afar, this garden is even more beautiful when you step here, unfolding a variety of flora in all colours and sizes before your eyes. With its gentle fountains, immense greenery and a beautiful lily pond, this place is surely going to soothe your city worn nerves. Take long walks along the winding paths here, check out the zoo, eat at the restaurant this garden features or simply sit by the lake side and soak in the peace and tranquility the views have to offer. Respond to the call of peacocks or have the wind blow droplets at you by standing near the fountain - a truly magical experience. Undoubtedly one of the best places to visit in Udaipur.

  • Japanese Rock Garden
    Situated on the way uphill to the Maharana Pratap Memorial, the Japanese Rock Garden can be called a younger sibling of the famous Nek Chand Rock Garden in Chandigarh. Away from the hustle bustle of the city and locked away in a quiet pocket of Udaipur, this place is a haven of calmness and perhaps the best place to seek peace of mind. A handful sculptures and lush greenery complete the picture. You can also also see the light and sound show at Moti Magri in the evenings at 7.30 in the winters and 8.15 in the summers.

  • Sukhadia Circle
    A huge round about in the heart of the city which features a pond and a massive three tiered fountain, the Sukhadia Circle is a hub of entertainment for the residents of Udaipur. Head to the gardens here for some energy filled evenings where you can enjoy camel rides, horse tonga rides and boating, munch on the yummy street food available here or play an outdoor game or two with your kids. The lighting of the fountain gives it a fantastical quality in the nights, which is one thing you would love to admire.
