Momos, the national dish of Nepal, is not just loved but revered in the capital city of Kathmandu. Essentially momos are dumplings that have their roots in the Tibetan region and are available in all shapes and forms in the city. Be it fried momos or the steamed ones, momos are on everybody's hit list.

Try the ones stuffed with buffalo, chicken, or vegetables with a Tuborg or San Miguel beer. It would not be an overstatement to say that they are available everywhere. On streets, in restaurants, bars, pubs, or even some chai stalls.

For a plate of Momos that has 6-8 dumplings along with the popular red chilli chutney, one has to pay between 50 NPR to 120 NPR depending on the place that you eat them at. However, some of the places that are really popular for their momos are:


  • Yangling Tibetan Restaurant
    The restaurant serves Nepalese cuisine at its best. They are famous for their veg momos along with the fried chicken momos which are served with three kinds of chutneys. The restaurant is basic but is popular because of the quality of the food and the cleanliness with which the place is maintained. You would enjoy having a plate or maybe two of the dumplings here with your friends.

  • Momo Mantra

    It is one of the most famous places to have momos in Kathmandu. It has one of the most inclusive menus that can be thought of taking momos in the center of it all. The place is decent in the area of the ambiance and offers good service and affordably priced food. It has the famous beer fed momos which have gotten really popular in the recent times among the locals and the travellers alike.

  • Old Tashi Delek Restaurant
    We have established that momos are great in Kathmandu and are available everywhere in the city but then what is so special about this place in particular that makes it stand out? It is the Tibetan momos, with a speciality of the Richosse Momo Soup that is one of its kind and is not available everywhere in the city. This speciality is the reason that the place is full almost at every time of the day. Another reason for the crowd is the decently priced menu that makes every kind of momo lovers visit and relish the place. Try the Momo Soup here and you will forget what momos typically tasted like. The soup is available for around 120 NPR which serves two.
