Ajmer has three famous museums that are a must visit. With a history and culture that’s much more than just engrossing and fascinating, this city houses some of the most interesting relics of the past. To get a sneak peek into the now gone world of royals and their royalty, do visit:

  • Government Museum

Once home to Emperor Akbar, this enchanting compound serves as the Government Museum as well. It’s nestled inside the king’s fort and lets you feast eyes on some breathtaking sculptures that have been sourced from Pushkar, Sirohi, Baghera, Pisangan, Harsnath (Sikar) Bharatpur, Arthuna, Adhai-din-ka-jhonpra and Osian. They date back to days as far as that of the Gupta dynasty. It also has some rare epigraphs, prehistoric relics and some reserve collection. There’s a library within the compound as well. Mark this one in bold on your itinerary, for you just can’t miss it.

Timings: 10 am to 4:30 pm. It remains closed on public holidays. The entry fee is a meagre INR 10.

Address: Ajmer Village

  • Archaeological Museum

Established in 1949, this museum is one of the major attractions at Ajmer. It’s divided in three parts and you’ll surely be asking for more of the wonders that it preserves, including two Yupa pillars and relics that were excavated from the various regions of Rairh, Bairat, Sambhar, Nagar and Jaipur. Don’t miss to have a look at the rare inscriptions and sculptures housed here.

Timings: 10 am to 4:45 pm.

Entry fee: INR 10.

Address: Dil-e-Aaram Gardens

This one is within the precincts of the famous Mayo College at Ajmer. It can be visited only with the permission of college authorities and during the college time. It has some of the most priceless pieces in the antique and armoury section. It prides itself for being one of the best college museums in the region.

Other than these, you have relics of an era long gone right in the midst of all the hum at Ajmer. The whole city is a sort of a keeper, carefully guarding the rich history of its past, only to pass it on to the future generation to boast of.
