Museums are fine institutions dedicated to high values of preservation, education and truth. These are the places where you can have an experience of being transported to a bygone era, a slice of history that will stimulate your senses. Chamba has a fair share of its history that has been preserved in one of its museum called Bhuri Singh Museum.

  • Bhuri Singh Museum

Bhuri SIngh museum is named after the King of Chamba who ruled between 1904 to 1919 which formally opened on 14th September 1908. Bhuri Singh donated a vast collection of exquisite and rare paintings to this museum. The idea to open this museum was the brainchild of J. Ph. Vogel, a reputed Indologist who was serving in the A.S.I, who in his exploration discovered many old inscriptions and after reading and analysing them found that they were mostly in Sarda script and shed light on the medieval history of Chamba. The museum has some inscriptions of Sarahan, Devi-ri-Kothi and Mul Kihar preserved in the museum. The museum houses unique paintings depicting the lives of Krishna and Rama and Bhagwat Puran in Guler - Kangra style, executed by artisans commissioned by Chamba rulers. The museum also has indigenous collection of coins, jewelleries, traditional and royal arms, armour and musical instruments
The timings to visit this museum are from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm throughout the year except on Monday and other gazetted holidays. The price of a ticket for Indians and foreigners is INR 10 and 50 respectively.
