It may sound like a feat to get some non vegetarian fare at Ahmedabad, but believe me, it’s not an unachievable one. Get set for some more lip-smacking time right in the heartland of Gujarat. You can order some of the juiciest, freshest pick at:

  • La Bella

Not much of a looker, La Bella holds some alluring surprises for you. Walk down the Old City roads to reach La Bella, a non vegetarian’s paradise, run by the lovely, old Ms Lobo. Chicken Curry, Mutton (on select days), Pork Chilly Fry, Fish Fry makes for the menu that doesn’t come in some ornate printed form. Anna, the cook cum helper of Ms Lobo, will tell you all that’s on the menu in a breath. You just can’t have enough of what Anna and company will dish out for you, so take enough cash for repeated orders. And then, La Bella doesn’t accept card payments as well for this place is good food sans any frills. Trust me, this one room eatery will be one of the darling places that you’ll never forget. Just make sure that you reach the place before 7.30 pm or somebody else would have gotten away with the La Bella delicacies.

A meal for one costs somewhere between INR 50 and INR 200.

La Bella is closed on Mondays.

  • Bhatiar Gali

This famous lane in the Old City has everything that a buff of non vegetarian food can dream of. Walk in to any of the eateries here to gorge yourself with the most delicious Seekh Kebabs that you may have ever tasted. An astonishing variety of jinga, chaap, kaleja, bheja, gurda, mutton fry, keema khichdi and more awaits you here. Give a befitting end to your non vegetarian exploration with a cup or two of Lemon Chai or Suleimani Chai.

A meal for two at Bhatiar Gali costs between INR 50 and INR 200.

Gandhi Road

  • Khamasa

Khamasa is another popular stretch that’s dotted with the best of eateries in the Old City. However, ancient and worn out this area may look, the four main eateries here dole out some of the best smelling, crunchiest non vegetarian dishes. All the four have their own specialisations - egg, beef and chicken for the two of those. Hanifbhai is one of the famous eating joints at Khamasa, a favourite with the locals and tourists alike.

A meal for two costs between INR 150 and INR 200 at Khamasa.

Address: Near Jamalpur Bridge

Old Ahmedabad City

Though Jainism prevails over the eating out options at Ahmedabad, it still holds many lures for the lover of non vegetarian food. The rare few places that serve it are experts in their own right and you would be more than just happy after a meal or two at any of these.
