When you are in the misty hills of Coorg, the shopper inside you is surely going to itch for goodies to carry back. Worry not, Coorg has so much to offer not only are you going to be surprised but you will also return with bags full of goodies. Let us tell you where to buy and what to take back from your holiday in this treasure of serenity.

  • Friday Market

It is hard to miss the sight of luscious plantations when on your holiday in Coorg, and if you want to taste, smell, touch and of course buy their produce, Friday Market is the place to be. Buy pepper, nutmeg, cardamom and star anise, coffee products and exquisitely fresh fruits from here (Consume the fruits there itself, they won’t probably be good till you get home!). Also famous for sandalwood crafts, rosewood carvings, intricate ethnic jewellery and silk, this little market presents queer things that seem straight out of your fancy.

  • Kushal Nagar Market

This reasonably priced market largely sells Tibetan artefacts. On your walk down this market, you will find yourself surrounded by colourful home beads, imprinted tables, intricate screens, traditional dinner gongs, queer boxes, mythological figures, decorating and stationary items which transport you into a world that  is so different from today’s shopping mall culture. Pick up interesting memorabilia from here and put it in your drawing room and I assure you, you have a great conversation piece.

Are you excited? Wear your shoppers hat, brush up your collector skills and stroll down these local markets of Coorg. You will surely find something that catches your fancy and allows you to take home a small part of this beautiful hill station home with you.
