Which are the popular places for Shopping in Shillong?

0 people found this answer useful Useful ?Yes

Answer: Strolling around the hills in absolute peace but only shopping on your mind? Shillong just might be your dream destination then. Lose yourself in the hustle bustle of North East's largest street market or sit poised for a classy purchase at the state emporium. Whatever you choose, you can be sure to never be disappointed.

  • Bara Bazaar

Also known as the Iewduh Market, this one is famed for being the largest open street markets in North East India. It has different sections for local handicrafts, vegetables, fish, betelnut, etc which can be bought at quite a bargain here. Take home some amazing bamboo and wooden handicrafts, especially the yummy bamboo pickle, and you'll feel like you're taking home a part of Shillong with you. A great place to experience the typical Shillong way of life too! The market usually shuts by sundown, so make sure you're done with your shopping expedition till then.

Timings: 8am to 5pm (till sunset, mostly). Closed every Sunday

  • Purbashree

This beautiful emporium, owned and managed by the Government of Meghalaya is a great place for some local handicrafts and souvenirs, especially if you're looking to carry home a gift for your loved ones. An initiative towards promoting the arts and crafts of Meghalaya, this emporium offers great insights into the varied and rich cultural heritage of the state.

    Address: Police Bazar
    Shillong
    793001
    Meghalaya
    Telephone: +91-364-2224477

Other than these popular choices, you could also try showrooms in the Police Bazaar area for some branded clothes and accessories. So let your pockets go light and let the shopaholic in you rejoice!
