Beginning with your journey to Gulmarg, you will be completely captivated and enthralled by the scenic splendour. Wherever you turn your eyes, there is beauty to behold. Some of the popular sightseeing sights of Gulmarg are:

  • Kongdori

More than a sight to see, Kongdori will give you a sight to behold. Board the Gondola at the cable station at Gulmarg that will take you up to Kongdori at an altitude of 3099.6 meters- it's practically a vertical, upright, ride and lasts for about 10 minutes. During the ride itself, you will go through tall fir trees, which then open out to grassy slopes below dotted with wildflowers or snow, if it's winter. Again, depending on the season, you either step out on lush, green grass or knee-high snow. At the Kongodori station, if it isn't hazy or cloudy, you will get the most astounding view of the Nanga Parbat looming majestically in the distance. You may also be able to make out the peaks of K2 on a clear day. Ask the natives here to point the LOC clearly visible from here. From here, the snow peaks seem close enough to touch.

Whether you are a bird-lover, naturalist or simply looking for an adventure, a hike through the rich vegetation of the biosphere is a must. Aptly named, the place is home to some of the more endangered and protected species like the Leopard, Musk Deer, Black Bear, Red Fox, etc. Carry a pair of binoculars, as you might just sight the Blue Rock Pigeon, Snow Cock, Jungle Crow, Griffon vulture or or other rare bird species, flying through or taking a breather on the towering conifers. The ideal time to see the wild animals is considered between September to March while the ideal time to see birds is considered March to May. March to May is also the time when the biosphere is left fragrant by the blooming and flowering of many of the trees and shrubs resident here and is dotted with a kaleidoscope of flowers.

Is horseback riding through chilly winds, with a raw, pink nose, on a slippery, snowy trail your idea of fun or one of your favourite adventure fantasies? Well, then an excursion to Alpather lake is for you. At the foot of the twin 4511 meter Alpather peaks is the beautiful alpine lake that remains frozen until June. You can reach it by a well-graded track on the back of a pony. Even when it has melted, you can see it flecked with floating ice pieces. With the backdrop of hilly snow-capped terrains, it makes for an ideal picnic spot.

With so much to see, you will soon develop a crick in your neck trying to capture and experience it all.
