After spending a lovely holiday in Darjeeling, you don't really feel like getting back to a boring monotonous life, do you? Well, if you want to extend your holiday trip here, there are some fabulous options around Darjeeling that you can visit:

  • Kalimpong

    A beautiful hill destination near Darjeeling, Kalimpong is a mesmerising place that you must visit. Being located only 56 km away you cannot possibly miss this vibrant place once you are in Darjeeling. It will take you a drive of around 1 hour to reach Kalimpong from Darjeeling.
    Erstwhile a part of Bhutan, the place has many Buddhist monasteries, ancient churches and exquisite temples. The panoramic view of the Teesta Rangit Valley from the spot known as 7th Mile Viewpoint is just breathtaking. The town is laden with flower markets where you can spot some rare orchids found only in the Northeastern region of India.

    The place can be easily reached from Gangtok and the best way is by roadways. Cabs can be booked for somewhere around INR 1000.

  • Gangtok

    A prominent Buddhist pilgrimage site that is nestled in the high peaks of Himalayas sheltering the Enchey Monastery. The hill station is only 93 km away from Darjeeling. This raw untouched beauty of northeast is situated in the Shivalik hills of the eastern Himalayas at an altitude of 1,700 meters.
    This enthralling Himalayan city is the capital of Sikkim since 1894. Embraced by the massive Himalayas the place offers stunning view of Kanchenjunga, the third highest peak of the world. Gangtok has an amicable cultural fusion and people here live peacefully in diverse ethnicity and religion. On a tranquil walk down the street in Gangtok you can get a fresh aroma that comes from the lush tea plantations.
    Hire a cab from Darjeeling and take a serene drive to Gangtok, enjoying the picturesque scenery on the way.

  • Siliguri

    Only 80 km away and a 3 hour drive, Siliguri is best accessed through roadways. You can hire taxis for INR 1000 to INR 1500 or just take a bus from Darjeeling which would cost you somewhere around INR 60.

    Famous for its tea estates, Siliguri is the Gateway to Northeast India as it lies on the thin strip of land connecting the mainland and the latter. Tourism is one of the capital industries here, others being Timber, Tea and Transport. Offering scenic views of the lofty Kanchenjunga mountain, the landscape of Siliguri is perhaps the most refreshing in all of India. The Mahananda Weir Wildlife Sanctuary is located nearby and is a haven of flora and fauna. TheScience City makes for an interesting educational excursion, as it displays various scientific experiments and equipments. The Coronation Bridge is a must visit, for it is a fine example of architecture and can be called art in steel itself. Apart from the local artifacts and handicrafts, one can also buy cheap China-made electronics here. The Salagura and Kalachakra Monastery are important Buddhists centers here.

  • Dooars Valley

    A splendid town in the Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal, Dooars act as the doorway to the entire northeastern region of India being located in the Indo-Bhutan border. The valley is covered in lush greenery offering a rejuvenating sight for the eyes of a tired city dweller. Washed up by mountain rivers like the Teesta, Torsa, Jaldhaka, Raidak and their tributaries, the aura of the valley refreshes the body and soul of its visitors.Most parts of the valley is covered in thick verdant forests. The roads are cut along these forests and a drive through these roads with dense forests on both sides can really be an unforgettable experience.
    One major attraction of the Dooars Valley are its existing wildlife sanctuaries. The
    Jaldapara Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the most famous sanctuaries in this area. You can spot the one-horned Rhino which is the most famous inhabitant of this region. Other animals include the bison, leopard, different types of reptiles, wild boars, spotted deer and a large number of peacocks. Other sanctuaries include the Chapramari Wildlife Sanctuary , the Gorumara National Park and the Buxa Tiger Project.
