  • Lagoon

Located inside the Cinnamon Grand Hotel, Lagoon ranks amongst the city’s top seafood restaurant. You can make a selection from the fresh catch of the day and even ask the chef to prepare it according to your liking. Watch your food being prepared in the open exhibition kitchen or sit back and enjoy the views offered by the man-made lagoon with a cool drink in hand. You can either go for the Sunday lunch Maalu Maalu, or indulge in some Chilly Octopus, Fish roe, Lobster Thermidor and/or Baked Crabs. Their seafood in Thai curries is an absolute hit. The restaurant is a good value for money, but not exactly cheap.

Located right on the Mt. Lavinia beach (hardly 10 kilometres away from the main city), this restaurant caters to the Chinese seafood cuisine. The ambience is refreshingly low key and informal, with an option of dining the under the stars made available. Enjoy your food in the beachfront setting with a live band playing for your entertainment. The whole experience is simply awesome! Their preparation of the Chilly Crab and the Thick Seafood Soup is to die for! Apart from seafood, you can also choose from the poultry, meat or the vegetable sections. The food here is moderately priced even after including the 23% tax (10% service, 12% VAT and 1% TDL).

  • Seafood Cove

Another popular beachfront restaurant known for its outstanding seafood cuisine and an open air seating right on the beach. If you are a couple, you shouldn’t miss out on the candlelight dinner on the beach. The mellow golden light from the candle, the starry skies and the sounds of the waves crashing against each other, come together to create a beautifully romantic and intimate atmosphere. Like most other seafood places, you get to make your own selection from the fresh catches of the day and have the cook prepare it according to your instructions. The prices are somewhat high, but that's expected when it comes to seafood. However you will find some great dishes which are quite reasonable priced. Don't give this place a miss if you are really into seafood.

  • Ministry of Crab

This is a joint venture of the Sri Lankan cricketers Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara, along with Darshan Munidasa (owner of the Japanese restaurant, Nihonbashi). The main focus is on the succulent crab based dishes, but other non-seafood and vegetarian options can also be found. Being a sister restaurant of the Nihonbashi, the food here has a predominant Japanese flair. You must try the Chilli Crab and the Baked Crab. Their Sashimi selection is fantastic! The restaurant is run in what used to be the Old Dutch Hospital, one of the oldest buildings in the Colombo Fort. The absolutely scrumptious fares available at affordable prices will make you come back again and again...and again.
