Jodhpur is famous for its street food and one can easily find a cooling glass of special lassi or some Mirchibadas being sold at a street corner. However finding a restaurant becomes a tad dicey unless you are in a tourist spot. Still we were able to locate some popular restaurants in Jodhpur. Read on.

  • Jharokha restaurant
This strictly vegetarian restaurant is the rooftop restaurant of the Haveli Guest House with incredible views of the Mehrangarh Fort and blue city. It serves both Indian and Chinese cuisine and a full meal for a single person can cost around INR 200 or above. Both the food and the service are great

    Address: Makrana Mohalla

    India

  • New Shaheen Restaurant
Located on the second floor of a building, just outside the old town and hidden between rows of pharmacies and clinics, this quaint restaurant is frequented more by the locals than the tourists. For a meagre sum of INR 60 to INR 80, one can select a variety of different options ranging from kebabs, tandoori to traditional Indian curries. The kitchen is right in the seating area which gives a unique feel and of course makes for a great delight for all the senses.

    Address: Near Old city

    India

  • Kalinga Restaurant
Located right outside the railway station, this place has a soothing ambience, well behaved staff and delicious north Indian food. The traditional Rajasthani laal maans (meat cooked in red curry), Dum Alu and tandoori dishes are quite popular here.

    Address: Station Road
    Jodhpur Train Station area

  • Shandar Sweet Home
Known for its excellent Gulab jamun ki sabzi, Kabuli, and other Jodhpuri specialities, this restaurant is located near the Jalori Gate, in the Jalori Gate Bari. Another favourite among the locals as the prices are quite reasonable. Do try out the Makhanbada and the creamy lassi if you end up here.

    Address: Opposite M.G Hospital
    Jalori Gate Bari

  • Gypsy
This one is close to the market area in Sardarpura. It serves good fast food but is quite crowded. The locals claim that Gypsy serves one of the best Rajasthani thalis and that too for just INR 152, although the bill comes out to INR 175 after adding the service taxes!

    Address: 9th C Road
    Sardarpura
    Jodhpur
    Rajasthan
    India

  • Shri Mishrilal Hotel and Restaurant
A household name in Jodhpur, this place is famous for sweetmeats. You must try the Makhania lassi which is so thick you will be ‘eating it’ with a spoon. And then try the fantastic Rabri and the piping hot Samosas. We may as well warn you that the place is not much on ambience. Actually it is quite a ramshackle, with the pictures of great Indian heroes being the only decoration adorning its green walls, but you will hardly remember all that once you get lost in the sheer heavenly taste of the delectable milk and cream sweets available here.
Another popular temple of sweets would be the Janta Sweets on the Nai Sadak. Apart from the sweets, don’t forget to try out their Mirchibadas.
    Address: Old city

  • Garden Restaurant
Located in Ajit Bhawan on the Airport road (near Circuit house), this place serves an excellent variety of Indian and Continental dishes. A little on the pricier side, the cosy sitting area in the garden, the romantic candlelight dinner and of course the great food, more than make up for the price. A meal for one can cost up to INR 500 or more. The dance and music shows render a very relaxing atmosphere and add on to the dining experience. The Garden restaurant remains open from 12:00 pm to 03:00 pm and 07:30 pm to 10:30pm. Ajit Bhawan also houses another restaurant called “On the rocks”, which also shares a good ambience and multi cuisine dishes. It has a separate and well stocked bar. The service can be a tad slow and it seems they are more inclined towards the foreign tourists as compared to Indians.

    Address: Ajit Bhawan Palace
    Circuit House Road
    Jodhpur
    Rajasthan
    India

Tip: If the local food is not agreeing with you, there is a Mc Donalds in the Satyam Cineplex located on the High Court Road.

So come to Jodhpur for an authentic taste of Rajasthani food, or if you feel like it, Jodhpur offers you some options to indulge in fast food or continental cuisines. Forget about the calories, forget about your weight concerns, just close your eyes and get lost in the tempting bites of heaven.
