The vibrant city of Amritsar takes you on a roller coaster ride in a typical ‘Punjabi style'. A thriving city with its roots buried deep within, boasts of huge and lofty malls as well as traditional stalls and shops. Shopping in Amritsar is a fun experience.

. Lets look at few places where you can go shopping while in this vivacious city:

  • Old City

    In the Old city of Amritsar, alongside the ruins of the glorious past, you can find little shops and stalls lined through the narrow alleys. Besides, being a wonderful place to shop, you should can pay a visit to this place just to experience the uncanny beauty of the Old city. Starting from roasted sweet potatoes to garments and jootis, you will find almost everything in the shops here. It is however, very famous for the traditional items sold here.

  • Kapra Market
    The Kapra Market of the city is famous for garments. You can find Patiala salwars here, a beautifully designed traditional outfit worn by the women of this region. Moreover salwar suits made in traditional Phulkari works is also found in this market.

  • Katra Jaimal Singh Bazaar
    The Katra Jaimal Singh Bazaar in the Old city is famous for beautifully adorned sarees. The flamboyant bling in them defines the typical Punjabi style of the sarees.
  • Go to Amritsar's Hall Bazar to shop for the premium quality woolen garments, blankets and carpets woven by the rural people of Punjab.
  • The shops adjacent to the Golden Temple sell religious paraphernalia like khandas, Karas (sikh religious bangle), swords, daggers and other Sikh symbols made in metals etc. You can also buy religious books and CDs with devotional songs etc.
