Want to take a break from the city and enjoy yourself in the lap of nature? If yes, then you would be amazed at how the beautiful hill station of Munnar takes you handholding to the several beautiful places of interest.

  • Christ Church

Built by the british tea planters in 1910, this church still holds its serenity and holiness intact as it is situated away from the hustle of the city in a peaceful atmosphere. The church is an architectural splendor with beautiful stained glass windows and rows of beautiful rosewood pews. There is a cemetery on the hillside adjacent to the church with tombs dating back to 1894. This peaceful place is best visited during Christmas time when it is elaborately decorated with lights.

  • Mattupetty Dam

A huge reservoir which makes for a lovely sight. The scenic beauty is simply astounding. You can see the eucalyptus plantations on the other side of the banks. Lots of wading birds can also be seen. There is an Echo Point where people shout and holler to hear their own echoes. There is boating facility in the waters of the reservoir.

  • Echo Point

Shriek and scream and hear your voice back, doesn't that sound fun? Well Echo point offers you that. It is a vantage point located at around 13 kilometres from Munnar towards Top Station. The place is so named because of the echo phenomenon. Nature walks and picnics are the common activity at this place. The panoramic view, clean mountain air and mist clad hills makes this place worth a visit.

  • Top station

View the majestic Western Ghats at this highest point between Munnar-Kodaikanal road, at an altitude of around 1700 meters. Located at a distance of 32 kilometres from Munnar, it falls along the border of the state of Tamil Nadu. Famous for the rare Neelakurinji flowers which bloom once in 12 years, this place make you feel as though you are above the clouds. You can easily come here in a bus which ply frequently between Munnar and Top Station. It's not advisable to visit Top station between June to October as the roads become slippery.

  • Idukki Arch Dam

The Arch Dam is a beautiful architectural feat. Built by the British, the dam is in the shape of a big arch. The water is not much like the Mattupetty Dam and hence the beautiful boats and shikaras lie idle. There are a lot of coffee plantations here. The ambience is great and perhaps after the rains the dam gets full and the beauty is even more enhanced.

  • Waterfalls

The cascading waterfalls and its surroundings just refreshes you, doesn't it? If yes, then you will be delighted to know that Munnar and its surrounding environs are abundant in waterfalls which attain their full glory immediately during the July-August monsoon. Of these the Attukkad falls, approx 8 km from Munnar, are the most popular. Cheeyappara (falling from a height of over 500 ft) and Valara are the other two nearby attractions. While the falls themselves serve as bathing sites, the nearby locations are ideal picnic spots. The Power House Waterfalls, located at a distance of 18 kilometres towards thekkady, cascades down a steep boulder at an altitude of 2000 meters above sea level.

  • Tata Tea Museum and Factory

The tea museum run by the Tata Tea Company which traces the evolution of the tea industry in Munnar from the 1880s. On display are most interesting items of a bygone era such as photographs, the original tea roller (dating back to 1905), furniture, typewriters, wooden bathtub, manual calculators and EPABX of the 1909 telephone system. Adjacent to the museum is the tea processing unit. With permission, one can visit the Tata Tea Factory also. You can see the tea pickers busy with their job of picking up the tea leaves and can meet a few of them on your way.
