Bangalore has several vegetarian food options for its travellers. And it’s not just South Indian! You can easily get North Indian, Gujarati and Chinese food options across the city. Whatever you eat don’t forget to order the Bangalore dosas, a plateful of rava idlis and Bisibele Bhath. Here are a few options for starters:

  • Vasudev Adiga’s

If you are looking for authentic Bangalore dosas and idlis, then Adigas should be your next stop. It has a neat ambience and vegetarian cuisine and a menu that fits perfectly within a tight budget as well. The stand and eat option makes the service even more prompt. It’s just the place for a quick and economical bite.

Set aside about INR 250 for two for a meal here.

Address: Dickenson Road

Commercial Street Area

You can also visit Vasudev Adiga’s at Bannerghatta Road, Koramangala Ring Road, Commercial Street area and Madiwala.

  • MTR

More popularly known as Mavalli Tiffin House is the birthplace of the Rava Idlis. During World War II MTR fell short of rice to make idlis. That’s when they used rava or semolina instead and came up with the first Rava Idli ever. This place is clean, service is good and gives you total value for money. It’s the place to try out the idlis (of course) and also the local dosas. MTR is a vegetarian joint.

Shell out about INR 300 for two at MTR.

  • Maiyas

Breakfast at Maiyas! Well, they serve everything from dosas to idlis but if you are in search of North Indian food, they have a variety in that too! The place is neat and the service prompt. And then there is a delightful array of sweets as well. No wonder the Bangaloreans love the place. Maiyas is popular among both the locals and the tourists. It’s a good idea to get reservations done beforehand. And yes, don’t forget the delightful coffee there. They also have home delivery.

You’ll need to spend around INR 250 for a two people here.

Timings: 7 am to 10 pm

  • Woodlands Hotel

If you are planning on an all South Indian meal, do try out Woodlands Hotel. It’s neat and nice place with plenty of delicious options on the menu. You could try the dosa variety or the Uthappams, sambar vada and idlis. You also have the option of either enjoying your meal inside or outdoors.

A meal for two would cost INR 300.

Most restaurants in Bangalore open early so you’ll always have the option of jumping out of the hotel and grabbing breakfast at one of these. Add a cup of coffee to your order for that perfect breakfast. These restaurants also serve lunch and dinner but remember that they all pull down their shutters at around 11 pm.
