Ahmedabad has got a reputation for being a vegetarian’s paradise. A wave of Jainism seems to have swept over the food scene in the city and there’s plenty to satiate the vegetarians. Walk in to any of these to try out the succulent veggie delights that the city has on offer:

  • Agashiye

Agashiye has a charm of its own. With a menu that changes everyday, this terrace restaurant at the House of MG lures tourists in droves. It has the best of Gujarati cuisine, including the mouthwatering Khata Dhokla, Be Padi Rotli, Patra Makai, Kachumber Salad, Mag ni fotra waldi Khichdi, Teti Limbu nu Sarbat and more. You can also savour the tasty non-Gujarati dishes here. The green and yellow interiors will add a refreshing charm to the place.  

A meal for two costs INR 500 and up.

  • Toran Dining Hall

Rub shoulders with the quintessential Gujarati folks at the Toran Dining Hall that’s usually filled to the brim. Locals hobnob with tourists to grab the famous thalis that bring out the real flavour of the local cuisine. Rotli, dal, kadhi, rice, an alluring variety of shaak sabjis and more makes for the thali here. Have a date with the true flavours of Gujarat at Vishalla. More than a simple meal, it’s a spread that you’ll never ever forget. This place is more on the lines of a rural village and the food here is much more than just yummy. Fried food is off the menu and you are in for a surprise if you think that Gujarati food is all that they serve here. Aloo, puri, kathol, bhakhri, bataka nu shak, rose lasi, cholafali and more. This cosy food joint is another must visit for the veggie lovers. With a menu that’s more comprehensive than what you would expect, this restaurant is a surprise. The thalis here are a wonderful assortment of rotla/ puri, kadhi, khichdi, farsaan, buttermilk, salad, kathol and a mouthwatering choice of shrikhand, fruit matho, gulab jamun, aam ras and more. These guys have been doling out gastronomical delights for the tourists from 40 years! Now that’s what you call experience.

A meal for two at Gopi Dining Hall costs a paltry INR 300. Happy dining.
