You’re in the literal paradise for exotic seafood and delicious preparations of meat and chicken surround you. But wait, you’re a vegetarian, or simply are in the mood for vegetarian today. Sweat not, for even though Koh Samui is famous for its seafood, there are a few good vegetarian restaurants that will keep you happy. Pick from one of these popular vegetarian restaurant options in Koh Samui:

  • Vikasa Yoga Retreat

Completely detox and learn the simple, healthy way of living here at Vikasa. Though the restaurant also offers meat options, the vegetarian menu serves light, freshly cooked dishes with organically grown vegetables. Combining Thai and Yoga principles, the menu here is a lesson in healthy meals and eating habits, balancing nicely with those massage and spa treatments that you will be indulging in on this trip. Try the delicious Thai soups or a healthy breakfast of oats porridge and pancakes and you’ll feel you’re all set to get on with that hectic itinerary!

The restaurant is open between 10am and 9pm and accepts all major credit cards.

    Address: 211 Moo 4 Maret
    Koh Samui

  • Lamai Veggie

An all vegan restaurant will be your saviour on this trip, especially if you’re not very comfortable taking your meals where non-vegetarian meals are also prepared. This place has a modest but delicious range of healthy Thai soups and main course items, ideal for both a light snack or a full meal. The lady who owns the place is quite friendly and will be happy to give you insights about the island. They sometimes serve a buffet with Thai soups and main course items. Other than this, they have some delicious local curries and dishes prepared in mock-meat to retain the original flavour.

The restaurant is open between 10am and 6pm (Monday closed).

    Address: 138/14, Moo 4
Maret Lamai Beach (at Had Lamai 4)
    Koh Samui

  • Amala at Prana

Choose from a wide range of dairy and vegan dishes at this lovely restaurant in Bophut. You can have a purely vegan order on request, so all your diet worries can take a backseat here. The lovely, fresh outdoor seating compliments really well with the healthy menu options, making your meal feel like a spa experience. Most dishes here have a touch of local, Thai flavour to them, though world cuisines like Italian and Continental are also served.

It operates between 7am and 10pm every day and all major credit cards are accepted here.

  • Sweet Sisters Cafe

Just as the name suggests, you’re in for some sweet delicacies here at this cafe located along the Baan Bang Kao Road. But desserts are not its only specialty. You can try some delicious Continental, Thai and Thai Fusion dishes, all prepared vegetarian or vegan to your liking. Do keep in mind though that the cafe also serves meat and seafood items here. The USP of this restaurant is of course its health-conscious menu, which uses completely organic produce and absolutely no MSG.

    Address: Baan Bang Kao Road
Corner of route 4173 and route 4170)
    Koh Samui
    84310

As is the case with almost all restaurants in Koh Samui, these restaurants may have a separate menu and rates for locals and tourists. It is always advisable to check for this before placing your order so that there is no confusion or conflict at the time your bill arrives. Though bargaining is usually not customary, but asking for a discount never hurts.

Go vegetarian on this trip and follow that lovely detox regime that you’ve always wanted to. In the company of pristine greenery and the turquoise-and-white sandy beaches, it’s only natural to keep your food as natural as you can. Go green!
