Will you get sea food in Bangalore? What should I carry to wear there? Is travelling by bus better than a hiring a cab? So many questions cloud your mind before travelling to a new destination. Glance through the tips below maybe they can take the burden off your curious head.

  • Travel

If you are travelling to Bangalore for the first time, chances are you’ll get both confused and lost. There are so many roads in Bangalore, each with a fancy colonial name that getting lost isn't a difficult here. Maps also don’t come handy and unless you know Kanada, asking of directions is not of much use either. So how do you travel?

There are enough and buses in the city but each reads the destination name in Kanada. Your only ray of hope will be the bus number which you’ll need to find out as per the destination you wish to reach. Look out for the white and blue buses if you want to travel within the city. The red buses are for longer routes. A cab could or a taxi could be a better idea. Most of these have metres so you don’t need to haggle with bargaining. Minimum charge for auto is INR 20 for 2 kilometres and INR 11 for every kilometre thereafter. Strike your deal with the drivers before boarding. Avoid getting into an argument with drivers at the last moment. It can be risky. The moment you sense danger call the control room at +91 80 22975803.

The travel desk at your hotel will be able to help you with cabs and drivers. If you are setting out for sightseeing, hire a cab for the whole day instead of switching cabs from one destination to the other.

  • Clothing

Travel light! This should always be a policy you follow while travelling. Light and comfortable clothing with fabrics that breathe are a good choice for Bangalore. The weather is almost always pleasant. But do carry along a shrug or stole for the evening wind and an umbrella if you are traveling during the monsoons. Don’t leave out your little black dress incase you wish to party at top end discos otherwise casual wear goes well for clubbing. Also, a pair of comfortable shoes works well for sightseeing or shopping. Talking of shopping, once again don’t carry too many clothes, you’ll be buying clothes anyway!

  • Stay

From luxury hotels to those that fit right into your budget, Bangalore has something for everyone. While most hotels are cluttered around the heart of the city, there are a few sprinkled around the IT hub and a little on the outskirts. Conveyance might be a difficult to find so try to get a hotel around the city only. While booking a hotel, know exactly what you are looking for - air conditioning, in-house restaurants, bars, parking etc. Then, compare prices with other hotels offering similar facilities, before booking.

  • Eating

Let the foodie in you go on a eating spree. From scrumptious Mangalorean food, spicy Kerala food and different vegetarian food options, Bangalore streets are lined with eating places - both big and small. You’ll definitely find something that marries well with your appetite and budget. The local cab drivers are very helpful while directing you to these outlets. Apart from these the Bangalore malls has its own share of Mcdonalds, KFCs etc. for you to grab a quick bite. Although seafood seems intrinsic to all southern states, Bangalore isn’t near a sea and so one can’t really talk about how fresh the seafood is. No matter where you go or eat, order mineral water.

You have loads to explore in terms of travel and eating options in Bangalore, but carry around a map, have enough balance on your phone and charge it fully before you set out on your adventure trip.
