There are several options for day trips around Pune, some of which are trips that one can take especially during monsoons, when the weather is at its best and the scenic beauty of Pune is at its burst of glory.

A few places that cumulate instantly as a great biking place near Pune as some very popular day trips are listed hereunder:

Lonavala lies approximately 64 kilometres away from Pune, which tabulates to approximately an hour or two by road, depending on your speed. The important thing to note though, is that it is a very popular tourist spot, and one is surrounded by equally mesmerized groups of visitors. Whether your idea of the visit is rejuvenation at the lap of nature, think - Aamby Valley, Balaji Tambe, Rainmakers Shack, or paragliding or a walk through the historic Karla Caves which are simply beautiful during the monsoons, you are at best spoilt for choice.

Famed for the diverse range of ‘chikkis,’ found here, as well as in Lonavala, dig into some as soon as you get here. In case you want to manage time and cover both Lonavala and Khandala, the two are only about 3-4 kilometres apart and this can be done. Both Lonavala and Khandala are well connected by the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, therefore finding directions to one spot from the other is rarely if ever a problem. Marked routes lead the way. The local ‘bhajias’ here are hard to miss. Khandala is surrounded by extensive views of the Sahyadri mountain ranges, getting a whiff of fresh air from atop a few hillocks is a good way to go for a great biking place near Pune.

Situated about 38 metres below Mahabaleshwar, this is a quaint little town surrounded by lush greens and rivulets of the Krishna River. It is surrounded by five prime hills of the Sahyadri range from where it derives its name. It is what is popularly known as ‘an all year round hill station.” Exploring colonial properties of the British, as some old Parsi homes in Panchgani, perhaps frames the order of the day, besides the daily dose of some excellent breakfast options and refreshing tea of course. Here is a good place to simply let go and have a brilliant time with some drama fare - think Bollywood, as a lot of locations here have been filmed in some very popular films in the 90s, before and after.

Extensively exploring Mahabaleshwar will take a little more than a day’s time, but the basic things to do once here would be to go horse riding, and simply explore what still remains of the old world charm from the days of the erstwhile British Raj. Bask here, simply in all of nature’s offerings - crisp mountain air, a mild dew about the landscape and several rivers that break a leg towards the old part of the town.
