Sitting at the mouth of the Thar Desert, Jodhpur experiences climatic extremes with very hot and dry summers and very chilly winters. The locals claim that the time between the months of October to March is most suitable, if you are planning a visit here. Below is a brief overview of the climate of Jodhpur all the year round.

  • Summer (March to June)

With temperatures hovering between 36 degrees Celsius to 48 degrees Celsius, it would not be a good idea to go roaming about and exploring the city. Even the barest of clothes or gallons of water, or sunscreen for that matter, would not be able save you from a burning pink face, or a more probable case of sunstroke. If you think that things might start to look up once the sun decides to take a nap, you are sorely mistaken. The sands and the pavements radiate an incredible amount of heat which makes the situation no better than what it was a few hours ago. So we cannot stress enough when we ask you not to plan your trip during the summer season - unless you are imbued with heat-resistant super proteins!

  • Monsoon (July to September)

It never really rains cats and dogs, in this side of Rajasthan. But keeping up with the season, Jodhpur manages to receive low to medium shower, the quantity of which varies from year to year. Though not as bad as the summers, we still would not recommend you to plan your break during this time as the temperature does not fall down to a comfortable degree, and the rains add the humidity factor. So, roaming around in a hot and clammy weather may not do wonders for you mood or disposition. On the brighter side, if you happen to be the crowd-avoiding type, this off-season is perfect for you, albeit a little uncomfortable. But what’s a little discomfort, to the opportunity of exploring a much quieter, more prettier Jodhpur, right? Even if you miss out on the festivities, you will have more accommodation options and peaceful surroundings. If you get tired of all that peace and quiet, you can always approach the friendly locals who are always happy to chat.

  • Winters (October to February)

Once the temperatures start to slip, and the rains finally stop, the official tourist season commences. Gradually the traffic increases and Jodhpur begins preparing for its festive season. The famous Marwar Festival and the Jodhpur RIFF take place during the full moon of this season (Sharad Poornima). It might get a bit nippy during the late evening, more so in late December, so please carry some warm clothing with you. December and January are the ideal months to try out desert camping activities. Also, the famous Desert Kite Festival takes place during January. With the temperatures ranging from 10 degrees Celsius to 24 degrees Celsius, the winter season is the best time to explore the city.

So, the bottom line is, the winter season is the best time to explore Jodhpur, as it becomes even more colourful and vivacious with the festivities and thronging crowds of tourists. Monsoon season may suit those who wish to avoid the crowds and take in the natural beauty of the city, which is at peak during this time. But at all costs, please avoid the summer season.
