The beautiful hill station of Joshimath is truly unique, with its alluring and panoramic views of the mighty Himalayas. A visit here will always be a memorable one, but do keep in mind the following tips and guidelines for a smooth and hassle free vacation.

  • Joshimath offers you all kinds of hotels, homestays and guest houses for accommodation to suit every budget, but, book beforehand if you wish to visit during the peak season which is the winter months from April to November.
  • It is highly important to confirm your train/flight bookings in advance to avoid getting stuck.

See and Do

  • Remember to enquire about the Darshan and Aarti timings of the temple. Dress discreetly at all the religious destinations.
  • Take care of the timings at the tourist attractions and do not click pictures if photography is prohibited.
  • In Joshimath, eco-tourism is more than a catch phrase to mean outdoor adventure travel, so remember to follow measures such as carrying out or disposal of garbage, not to litter as others also should get a chance to enjoy the beauty of nature as you have. Especially, when you go for trekking to places like Valley of Flowers, you must not litter.

  • If you are planning to drive to Joshimath and places around it, remember to start early, drive carefully and reach safely. Keep all your vehicle documents in order in case you are stopped at any of the check posts.
  • Carry a hand torch in case you have to attend to something in the car after dark.
  • There is low oxygen at few of the tourist places around Joshimath, so, be careful and take the portable oxygen cylinders. These are easily available all over town.

  • Carry enough heavy woollens if you go during winters and light woolens for summers along with wind cheaters and raincoats as it starts raining from the month of June. Comfortable pair of footwear is highly recommended as they will help you walk smoothly on the rugged terrain.
  • If you are prone to motion sickness, carry vomiting tablets and eat light food as much as possible. You could also carry ‘camphor’ to avoid feeling nauseous.
  • Carry some basic medicine and keep emergency contacts handy.
  • Avoid carrying valuables or money more than the actual requirements while         traveling.
  • Do not exchange currencies with unauthorized individuals as there are many touts who have cheated foreign tourists by promising to pay more than the exchange value. So, exchange currencies from Government authorized money vendors at airports or from hotels where you stay and remember to ask for a receipt of the exchange transaction.
  • If trekking is on your mind, make sure to carry the basic gear required. If you are planning guided adventure tours, make sure to check the license of your operator. It is also advisable to check the trekking gear provided by the adventure company.
  • Keep the emergency numbers handy, Police (100) and Ambulance (102). These numbers are free of cost and can prove to be of great in need.

With all these things taken care of, you are more than ready to explore Joshimath. Pack in a bundle of energy and set out on this enthralling journey. A beautiful and splendid destination awaits you. Keeping in mind these tips will ensure you a safe and comfortable vacation. We hope you have a wonderful trip to Joshimath.
