Matheran is a small hill station that is unique in some way from the other hill towns in India. Most importantly the place has been declared an eco-sensitive zone by the Government and therefore the only motor vehicles allowed here are emergency vans. This helps keep the town clean and yet more peaceful and serene. So, let’s look at some tips and guidelines that you can keep in mind while you travel to this gorgeous hill station in the state of Maharashtra:

General Guidelines

  • Since no cars are allowed inside the town the best way to traverse is on foot. So, make sure to carry a good pair of shoes that will help you walk through the terrains of the town.

  • The town gets dusty during the arid season moreover, it has red soil everywhere which may not be a very good for people with asthmatic problems.

  • If you want to have the best trekking experience then the early morning time is the best to enjoy it.

  • When you are in Matheran you know you have to do lots of walking so avoid carrying lots of luggage while you roam around. But a bottle of water is necessary to keep you refreshed especially during summers.

  • Carry adequate cash with you, because there is only one ATM in Matheran and unfortunately it often does not work during monsoon.

  • There are monkeys around. Do not try to feed them or play with them because they might follow you prior to that. And if you openly carry any food articles with you the monkeys would definitely try to snatch it away.

So those were the few tips for you to take with you on your trip to Matheran. Have a lovely time and don't forget to bite into one of the crunchy chikki!!
